このクラスで学べること
Each week we will discuss a different philosophical question. As we discuss the question students will be challenged to provide reasons to explain why they think what they do. This way, the class will challenge students and help them to develop critical thinking skills. This is an ongoing class and can be started at any time. In this class, we will examine the history of ideas and concepts foundational to understanding philosophical issues and concepts. We will begin by learning the myths of the ancient Greeks and what they meant for the people who lived then. Students are encouraged to bring topics to class that they want to discuss or find interesting. Possible Questions – “Can trees think?” “Are Numbers Real?” “What is Art?” “What is knowledge?” “What can we know?” “What is Space?” “Is Boredom a good or bad thing?” “What does “Infinity” mean?” “Do you think animals have feelings like us?” Class Goals: Students will learn to think about things more critically Students will begin to learn an analytical thought process Students will be introduced ethical questions Sample Schedule: Week of November 12: Can trees think? Week of November 19: Are Numbers Real? Week of November 24: What is Art? Week of December 4: What is Knowledge?
