In this class, which is a continuation of my Intro to French (Part A) course, learners of French will continue to grow their vocabulary and study more complex sentence constructions. Like Part A, this class will move at an accelerated pace. While there will be some review of simple vocabulary and sentence construction, it is not suitable for absolute beginners who have had no exposure to the French language. Students will be provided with notes and vocabulary lists after each class (via a Word Document posted in the classroom), as well as some exercises for practice during the week in order to help them master their grammar. There will be some reading passages and short writing assignments in the last few weeks. Class 1: In this first class, we'll review articles, gender, agreement (of articles and adjectives with the nouns they modify), possessive adjectives ("my," "your," "his," "her," "our," "their"), and the present tense of the common verbs studied in my Intro to French (Part A) class. These verbs include "être" (to be), "avoir" (to have), "aller" (to go), "faire" (to make, to do), "vouloir" (to want), "pouvoir" (to be able to), and "aimer" (to like, to love). We'll review days of the week and parts of the day - "le matin" (morning), "l'après-midi" (afternoon, "le soir" (evening)," and "la nuit" (night) - and practice using them in sentences to indicate that an activity consistently happens on a given day of the week or at a certain time of day (e.g., "On Saturdays, I play soccer." "In the morning, I go to school"). Students will be assigned a few sentences for translation as homework. Class 2: In this class, we'll start by reviewing the homework. Then we'll explore four different ways of forming interrogative sentences in order to ask questions. We'll learn the pronouns and interrogative adverbs "qui" (who), "que" (what), "quoi" (what), "où" (where), "quand" (when), "pourquoi" (why), "comment" (how), "combien de" (how much), and "quel/quelle" (which) and also learn to ask questions in the negative. We'll also begin to learn new prepositions (en, dans, à, de, sous, au-dessus de, près, avant, avant de, avant que, déjà, entre, avec, sans, de, avec, pour, etc.) that will help us create more interesting and detailed sentences. Students will be assigned a few sentences for translation as homework. Class 3: We'll review the homework for the week. Student will be introduced to the adjectives "ce," "cet," and "cette," which translate to "this" (e.g., this cat). Then, students will learn how to use the pronoun "qui" (who) when the pronoun is the subject of the verb in the dependent clause (e.g., "The people who just boarded the plane are in a rock band.") and the pronoun "que" (that) to introduce defining relative clauses (e.g., "She picked up the hairbrush that she had left on the bed."). They'll be introduced to the present tense of the verb "dire" (to say) and will practice using it with the pronoun "que." We'll also learn the conjunctions "et" (and), "mais" (but), "ou" (or), "si" (if), "donc" (so, therefore, hence), "parce que/qu'" (because), "pendant que/qu'" (while), and "puisque/puisqu'" (since, because, as, seeing as, just as, like, just like). Students will be assigned a few sentences for translation as homework. Class 4: After reviewing the homework from the previous week, students will learn how to form adverbs (from the feminine singular form of an adjective and adding "ment") and practice using adverbs with prepositions that express "more (than)" and "less/fewer (than)." They'll also learn the verbs "préférer" (to prefer), "aimer mieux" (to like more/better), and "aimer moins" (to like less) in the present tense, and practice writing sentences using these verbs. Students will be assigned a few sentences for translation as homework. Class 5: This class will begin with a review of the previous week's homework. Students will learn the verbs "partir," "sortir," and "quitter." All of these verbs mean "to leave," but they are used differently. We'll practice writing sentences using these verbs in the present tense, along with other vocabulary. We'll learn how to talk about professions. Students will be assigned a few sentences for translation as homework. Class 6: In Intro to French - Part A, students studied the definite and indefinite articles. In this class, they'll learn a third article: the partitive article "du/de la/de l'" and how it gets reduced (contracted) to "de/d'" before a noun (e.g., "beaucoup de bananes"). They'll also learn how the plural indefinite article "des" becomes "de/d'" after a negative construction. They'll practice using the partitive article after expressions of quantity ("assez de," "un kilo de," "une boite de," "une bouteille de," "une assiette de," "une tasse de," "un peu de," "tant de," etc.). Students will be assigned a few sentences for translation as homework. Class 7: In this class, students will go over the homework assignments from the previous week, then learn the present tense of the verbs "donner" (to give) and "recevoir" (to get, to receive). They will learn the forms and placement of direct object pronouns (me/me', te/t', le/l', la/l', nous, vous, les, les) and indirect object pronouns (me/m', te/t', lui, nous, vous, leur). They'll also review the demonstrative adjectives (ce/cet/ces and cette/cette, ces) and learn the demonstrative pronouns (celui/ceux, celle/celles and with -ci and -la). We'll read short writings in French for reading comprehension. Students will be given a writing assignment for homework Class 8: At the beginning of class, students will read their writing assignments. They will be introduced to prepositions of time and sequence: "dans" (in), "depuis" (since, from), "jusqua'à" (until), "pendant" (during, through), and "pour" (for). After reviewing the homework assignment, students will learn the present tense of the verbs "rentrer," "revenir," and "retourner," all of which mean "to return," but are used differently. We'll also explore the possessive pronouns, indicating "mine," "yours," "his," "hers," "ours," and "theirs." Then, we'll spend the remainder of the class time reviewing the material from the course. Students will be assigned sentences for translation. As this is the last class in the course, an answer key will be provided.

教師の専門知識と資格
I was educated bilingually in Canada all the way through university, where I graduated with an Honours double major degree in psychology and French studies from a bilingual university (Université York). The majority of my teachers and professors were from France, so my accent is more French than French Canadian. I've taught beginner French classes at the middle school and high school levels at a large home school co-op and also to my own four children as I home educated them for eight years.
