Students will learn how to stay safe while using the internet. This class will provide students with practical tips and guidelines to follow while using the internet, apps, and social media. We will discuss why it is important to stay safe on the internet and how they can protect themselves while using the internet. This class is taught with Canva presentation slides, lecture, discussion, and an activity where students think about what they would do in various situations. I believe in sharing information that young people need to know without scaring them unnecessarily. We will talk about not sharing personal information, not meeting up with people you don't know, how to handle cyberbullying, etc. Class Agenda Welcome Greetings and Ice Breaker Discuss What websites, apps, and social media do you use on a regular basis? Why? What do you already know about staying safe on the internet? Safety Guidelines Presentation Basic Rules to Follow to Stay Safe Online What to Do & What Not to Do What Would You Do? Read and think about a variety of different situations that may come up online Discuss how we can handle these situations

During this class, I may mention social media apps that your child is not yet old enough to have an account, such as Instagram, Facebook, TikTok, YouTube, etc. I will explain age restrictions for these apps. I may mention them during class in the context of explaining how to stay safe and explaining why it is important not to share personal information on the internet. Please feel free to contact me with any questions or concerns about this.

Hello families!
My name is Linda Lu. I teach English Language Arts and social studies at a middle school in the United States.
My education includes a Master's Degree in Teaching and a Bachelor's degree in English. I'm a licensed teacher in the state of North Carolina. I'm certified to teach English Language Arts, Reading, English as a Second Language, and Social Studies.
I have been teaching since 2012. My teaching experience includes teaching in South Korea, Japan, and China for a total of 4 years. During this time, I taught students of all ages, including elementary, middle school/junior high, and high school.
Currently, I teach high school English Language Arts and World History. My experience as a teacher in North Carolina includes experience with elementary, middle, and high school students.
I believe students learn best when they are engaged and having fun while they learn. I love classroom discussions where student can share their stories and perspectives. We can learn so much from listening to each other.
I also like to engage students with games, video clips, and other interactive activities as much as possible during lessons.
My hobbies are reading novels, watching movies, hiking, and traveling. I also love to spend time with family, friends, and my dog.
