Potentially Upsetting or Scary Content We will absolutely be talking about death, medical experiments, abuse, murder, mistreatment of humans, genocide, racism, discrimination, children being killed etc. We may see pictures and images that may include dead bodies and historically accurate nudity (they stripped victims down). While we will not show these kinds of images often they may come up in videos or be included in slide shows when it is important to the lesson. Students will be verbally warned prior to seeing these images. Introduction to the Holocaust Graphic descriptions of the Holocaust and its historical context. Discussion of the Nazi regime's rise to power and its impact on Jewish communities. The Lives of Jewish Children Before the Holocaust Personal stories of children who were later persecuted. The Impact of Anti-Jewish Legislation and Propaganda Detailed accounts of discriminatory laws and propaganda targeting Jewish families and children. Images and examples of anti-Jewish propaganda. Life in the Ghettos Descriptions of the harsh living conditions and suffering in the ghettos. Personal testimonies and possibly graphic images of life in the ghettos. Deportation and Life in Concentration Camps Graphic and distressing details about the deportation process and life in concentration camps for children. Accounts of extreme suffering, starvation, and death. Visual materials that may be upsetting. Resistance and Resilience Stories of brave but often tragic acts of resistance. Descriptions of the harsh consequences faced by those who resisted. Liberation and Aftermath Harrowing details of the conditions found upon liberation of the camps. Allison Kisielis is a Holocaust educator and has studied and researched the Holocaust in multiple concentration camps in Europe. She has worked as a Holocaust educator and written many papers on the Holocaust. She was a Holocaust Educator Intern at Museum of Jewish Heritage – A Living Memorial to the Holocaust. She is an alumni of Syracuse University, 2016 and current Holocaust and Genocide Studies graduate student at Stockton University. In addition she has experience in research within a professional and global setting, completing additional research in Wroclaw, Poland and Prague, Czech Republic.
