This class is to help introduce the fun in acting and theater through the use of different improv games. Each class will have at least 2 improv games for students to practice their skills in acting and creating stories, characters, and scenes on the fly. These games will help give practice to where students can collaborate to build a scene, story, or characters together. This will also help students establish skills in active listening, problem-solving, and adapting to new situations.

The following is the Class Schedule

Week 1: 10 fingers and 8 things- These two games are easy games where students are able to get to know each other and don't have pressure in creating characters/scenes yet. 10 fingers is where students hold 10 fingers and ask yes-no questions. If a student can't say yes to the question, then they'll drop a finger. 8 things is a game where one person will think of 8 that relate to each other in a category as the rest of the group cheers with encouragement. These games are great in introducing improv to students.

Week 2: Word at a Time Story and Actor Switch- These games consist of helping students creating fun characters and scenes to practice continuation of what was created previously by fellow actors. Word at a time story is a game where actors each take a turn to think of a word that helps create a cohesive story. Actor Switch is where two actors establish characters in a scene and then 2 new players take over while still maintaining the characters and scene that was established beforehand.

Week 3: Improv games: Written Lines and Twin Pillars- These two games are very similar but are conducted in slightly different ways. Written Lines is where students will write down quote lines from shows, movies, or books. Two actors will write down the lines on a piece of paper and keep in their pocket for later. As the two actors play the scene, they will "forget their line" and have to use the written line on the piece of paper to continue the scene. Twin Pillars is similar except instead of pulling out a piece of paper, two students will act as "audience members" and will give the line when an actor forgets in the scene.

Week 4: Improv games: 3 Line Scene and Blind Freeze- These games will help students take their skills to more intermediate level of improv where actors establish a scene with character relationship in only 3 lines. Blind freeze is like freeze tag but where actors will be replacing each other through scenes. Once an actor replaces a previous one, the scene/characters change and the other actor has to go along with it.

There will be warm-up exercises and games such as Taxi Driver, Good Bad Ugly, Yes, Let's ___, e.t.c to help students become comfortable before getting into acting out scenes together.
