このクラスで学べること
In this 1:4 ongoing immersion Mandarin class, we explore earth sciences (geology, meteorology, climatology, oceanography, & environmental science) by starting with natural disasters: tsunamis, volcanoes, landslides, tornadoes, explosions... For example, if the topic is tsunami, we will discuss where they come from, how tall/fast they can get, and what to do to protect yourself. We will also look at man-made disasters such as mudslides due to illegal logging, or the recent burst oil pipeline resulting in fire in the ocean. Learners will be introduced to scientific terminology/vocabulary. As this is an immersion class, learners should have at least 4 years immersion experience with learning Chinese. Learners should be able to converse in Mandarin Chinese fluently. This is a high intermediate-advanced class. Since there will be no English used, learners must be comfortable gathering knowledge from the discussion context or visual cues. It is okay for learners not to understand 100% of the class material as knowledge requires processing, assimilation, review, and repetition. There will be no material needed. At the moment, there are only four topics: Week 1 : Tsunami Week 2 : Tropical Cyclone: Hurricanes/Typhoons Week 3 : Volcanic eruption Week 4 : Ice, Snow, Avalanches
