Learners will improve their writing skills and learn how to organize their thoughts by creating outlines and compositions that follow the structure and style of IEW. They will dress up their writing by systematically adjusting parts of speech such as adverbs, strong verbs, and quality adjectives. Students will also practice varied sentence structure by using different sentence openers.

The learner should be prepared to spend 1-2 hours per week on homework outside of the live meetings. This will include writing compositions, studying vocabulary, and participating in asynchronous learning opportunities. The adult at home should be prepared to help when needed. Google Docs is mandatory for grading purposes.

Using Google Slides live and asynchronously, the learners will apply strategies used in IEW's program to complete assignments, such as labelling parts of speech in a sentence or filling in a chart. Learners will be able to see what others share and leave comments as feedback. 

Nearpod activities will be used to review and master grammar concepts and parts of speech being studied. Vocabulary review and usage will also be included. Embedded in these assignments will be Quill activities as well. Your learner will need an account to participate.

The student will be be provided detailed feedback based on finished assignments and according to the rubrics in the Student Book.

Google Docs is mandatory for feedback. It is the responsibility of the adult at home to collect grades and samples of learners' compositions for their own records. ***If you do not want a number grade, please message me privately so we can make arrangements for your learner.

All assignments will be turned in using Google Classroom. 

Vocabulary quizzes will also be assigned, but are optional for participation.

Each learner will have graded feedback on six of the twelve assignments. The remaining six will be self-graded.
