週あたり 2-4 時間. Assignments, which will consist of 1-3 paragraphs, will be posted each week in the Google Classroom and are due one week after they are assigned (unless otherwise noted). Checklists will be provided to remain on task and reach the hightest score possible. Resubmissions are allowed should corrections need to be made. Source texts, note posters, and other items to help remember concepts will be provided. In some cases students will need to research and bring their own sources to class to complete assignments. Several assignments will be linked to the reading of the literature, therefore the literature reading is a required portion of this course and required for success of the course. Checklists will be provided to remain on task and reach the highest score possible. Resubmissions are allowed should corrections need to be made.

Syllabus: Writing and History Through Literature (Part 1 of 2 - 15 Weeks)
Course Description: In this 15-week course, students will explore ancient history through the lens of literature while developing their writing skills using the Institute for Excellence in Writing (IEW) techniques. Previous IEW experience is not necessary, but it is helpful. Each week, students will discuss historical topics, practice IEW writing techniques, and complete related assignments.

Required Texts:
•	Tales of Ancient Egypt by Roger Lancelyn Green
•	The Golden Goblet by Eloise Jarvis McGraw

Materials Needed:
•	3-ring binder
•	File folders
•	Envelopes or ziplock bags for vocabulary cards
•	Internet access for research

Weekly Structure:
•	Historical Topic Discussion: Each week, we will discuss a historical topic related to the lesson.
•	IEW Techniques: Introduction, explanation, and demonstration of IEW techniques and assignments.
•	Literature Discussion: Discussion of the assigned reading.
•	Assignments: 1-3 paragraphs based on the lesson, posted in Google Classroom and due one week later.
•	Kahoot Quizzes: At the end of each literature assignment to reinforce learning.
•	Dress-Ups, Sentence Openers, and Decorations: New elements introduced weekly to enhance writing.
•	Checklists: Provided for each assignment to ensure students stay on task.
•	Resubmissions: Allowed for corrections.

•	This course is not graded, but assignments will be reviewed and feedback will be provided. Completion and understanding of assignments will ensure success.
Additional Notes:
•	Source texts, note posters, and other helpful materials will be provided. Students may need to research and bring their own sources for some assignments.
•	Active participation in literature reading and discussions is required for the success of the course.
