VOCABULARY CARTOONS AND THE ORIGINS OF IDIOMS!!! Are you LOQUACIOUS? Has THE CAT GOT YOUR TONGUE? Didn’t get any of that, huh? Well this class is for you! For ages 8-13, in this course students will learn new accelerated vocabulary through pictures and rhyming words with fun vocabulary cartoons! We will examine the origin of idioms through learning the history and time period for which it derived! Learn something new and "tickle your funny bone " at the same time! Vocabulary Cartoons and the Origin of Idioms is a 50 minute easy vocabulary and adages course. Classes begin daily with a quick introduction to the words and idioms of the day. Learners will learn 4 new words and 4 new idioms used in the English language per class. We discuss the word and how to use them in proper context and practical ways that we can use what we’ve learned. Classes are once a week and students can drop in at anytime as you don't have to have been here previously to understand each lesson! 1. Topic: Idioms and Vocabulary Cartoons Featured Vocabulary Words: Calamity Adage Dismantle Aqueduct Featured Idioms: Mince words Break the ice Cold turkey Stir up a hornets nest 2. Topic: Idioms and Vocabulary Cartoons Featured Vocabulary Words: Embed Obtain Intuition Elegant Featured Idioms: Bright eyed and bushy tailed Come again Mind your p’s and q’s Breath of fresh air 3. Topic: Idioms and Vocabulary Cartoons Featured Vocabulary Words: Inert Raze Novelty Crevice Featured Idioms: Cat that swallowed the canary Cat got your tongue Catch more flies with honey Cast the first stone 4. Topic: Idioms and Vocabulary Cartoons Featured Vocabulary Words: Delectable Lull Peril Douse Featured Idioms: Fair weather friend One good turn deserves another Face the music Catch you later * Words and idioms may vary from week to week and bonus words may be added if the children are doing well! The English language is beautiful. There are various ways to say the same thing, of course some more eloquent than others. Our ability to use adages in our daily speech is just the sweet red cherry on top. Come with me and discover new ways of saying old things! Together, we will take a small step into developing our vocabulary skills, and wrap up every class with a Kahoot game! No worries if you are not perfect, this class is all about having fun and learning. No prior knowledge is required. Just a pen, paper and a separate device with Kahoot when logging in!

Use of Kahoot on a separate device will be used in class at the end to review what we've learned for the day. Please be advised, especially for younger children. Please download and create account if necessary before the first day.
Fast paced. High energy! Notes will have to be taken! Some of my class sizes are larger, it keeps the energy going and gives ease to shy students. Please make sure you are ok with the class size BEFORE registering! (FYI, I have ALWAYS taught larger classes and am very skilled at teaching and controlling large groups of 20- 30 students daily for the last 23 years, so this is a breeze, they are in good hands!)

Discounted enrollments are not eligible for pausing or unenrolling. If you pause more than once for any reason, you can continue the class of course, but will have to go back to full price. If you Unenroll, you will have to go back to full price. **No transfers.
Please don't miss a payment. Outschool runs payments once a week (usually on Sundays) If you miss a payment you must go back to full price. With so many students and parents, it creates a ton of work creating new links every week for those who missed payments. I can no longer do it.
Please also note that pausing does not hold a seat in Outschool's system.
New discounts are not for existing students. New discounts are for students new to the class ONLY. (**No transfers).
One discounted seat per family, other seats must be at regular price (unless you ask me ahead of time, those I will honor)
f you have a DISCOUNTED ENROLLMENT, but your learner has missed 3 classes or more, I have to give the spot to another learner that is waitlisted to come. Spots are scarce, the class is full, and there are others who want to participate.
Student learners can use the same screen, but must be enrolled separately in the class and have their own learner profile with Outschool.
Please be mindful that I do strictly follow the refund policy outlined by Outschool as it pertains to the class. If you are beyond the window for a refund, reach out to me and, as a courtesy, I will try to see if I can assist in another way. However, there is no guarantee that another arrangement can be reached.
Most of you know me well by now and see my heart. I am very nice. But we also have to be mindful that we are not taking advantage of one another :)

Hello, and welcome to Vocabulary Cartoons and Origins of Idioms! My students (and friends) call me Ms. Erica!
I love idioms! I love vocabulary! My parents often spoke in parables around the house when I was young. Since discovering the term “idioms” as a child, I’ve been a mental collector of them, reciting them often, researching their origins, history and stories since I was a kid! I also read the Childcraft Dictionary and Thesaurus for fun! While learning about idioms and vocabulary, I learned the beauty of language, culture, and became an avid reader and lover of vocabulary, adages, poems and other expressions of the English language! I still study them, so I would say I am a self-proclaimed expert in the field with a passion to share what I know!
I love poetry, art, music and different expressions of the human cultural experience!!! In my spare time I paint a lot! A lot can be learned through the music and artistic expression of people around the world.
Teaching is my passion, and for the past 22 years, I have been lucky to do what I love. I teach 3 classes totaling about 90 teenagers daily. I run a Multi-Cultural Homeschooling Group of over 200 families where I teach children ages 8-12 a variety of subjects. I am also a full-time homeschooling mom to my amazing 11-year-old daughter.
I have a passion to share what I know! In my classes I provide extraordinary experiences through unique use of humor and video during lessons making learning fun in our relaxed classroom setting.
I am always excited to learn new things! The best investment you can make is the one you make in yourself! I work consistently to improve my skills, and continuing professional training is absolutely an integral part. Every year I take advanced instructor training courses to stay abreast of the current teaching methods and techniques available to prepare for fantastic individual learning opportunities. I pride myself on this.
