Learners will read three-four chapters before class each week. Learners will receive an assignment to complete outside of class. The assignment will include comprehension questions, analysis questions, new vocabulary words, and historical questions. Learners will need to purchase or borrow a copy of "I Survived the American Revolution, 1776" by Lauren Tarshis.
There will be discussions of war and death during the American Revolutionary War. The main character was also abused by his uncle. There will be discussions involving friends of Nate that were enslaved during the Colonial Era. Some students may be sensitive to these topics. Every effort will be made to keep discussions at an age-appropriate level.
