このクラスで学べること

Every student will be expected to write a book report at some point in their academic life. Book reports are a great way to hone reading comprehension and critical thinking skills. Although they seem mundane, scary, and overwhelming, when students are armed with the right strategies they will overcome these anxieties and successfully write their next book report!

Course Goals & Objectives:

→	Students will learn the concepts of writing a book report through hands-on activities utilizing the
        reading and writing process.
→	Students will learn and be able to identify the different types of book reports and how the writing
        process differs for each one.
→	Students will learn important terms and essential vocabulary associated with writing a book
        report.
→	Students will engage in specific writing tasks that model various writing situations.
→	Students will learn what to do at each stage of the writing process: before they read, as they read,
        and after they read.
→	Students will participate in class discussions.
→	Students will combine reading passages with corresponding activities and engage in class
        discussions.
→	Students will work on developing their critical thinking skills such as analyzing text, text
comprehension, knowledge application, text evaluation, and creative writing.

Students will be asked to work on small assignments outside of our class and will be evaluated weekly by class participation and completion of assignments.

Students will be required to write a book report for their final assignment. They will build on this assignment each week in class and on their own.

By the end of this course, students will be able to apply what they have learned to any book report assignment they encounter in their academic career.

The course will cover the following topics:
**What IS a book report?
**Different types of book reports
**Using graphic organizers for prewriting (preparing to write your book report)
**How to write fiction, nonfiction, and oral book reports
**Proofreading, revising, and editing your book report

教師の専門知識と資格
Hello, parents and students! My name is Jill Carlyle, and I am excited to share my passion and knowledge of Writing and Language Arts with your learner. My goal is to help students rise above various roadblocks. I work with all ages and grade levels, including homeschoolers and post-secondary (from undergraduate to doctoral). I help students with their writing skills, essay creation, spelling accuracy, vocabulary usage, and test scores! I believe that to stop learning is to stop growing: one is never too old to learn. Are you ready to take your knowledge to the next level?

A little about me: I graduated Magna Cum Laude from the University of Central Florida and hold a Bachelor of Arts degree in English Literature with a concentration in pedagogical writing and rhetoric. I hold a double master's degree in English Literature and Creative Writing (concentration nonfiction) from Southern New Hampshire University and a master's certificate in Women and Gender Studies from The University of Central Florida. I have taught upper elementary and middle school English Language Arts (5th, 6th, 7th, and 8th grades) in Brevard County, Florida.

Currently, I am a Professor of English Composition at Eastern Florida State College in Cocoa, Florida as well as a private writing coach and mentor to students of all ages.

I am eager to work with your learner!
