This class is meant to expand on some of the ideas learned in How to Train Your Pet with Operant Conditioning, but can also be taken as a stand alone lesson. Students will learn what shaping is, what it means, and how it fits into Behavioral Psychology. They will learn how to break up a complicated trick into small steps so that their pet can understand and learn it. We will watch some short video examples during class, as well as discuss how shaping can be used with different types of pets, even goldfish!

Though it is not out main topic, on occasion students might ask questions about pet snakes or scorpions. Students may also show their pets on camera. If your child has a phobia or fear of any animal, please let me know ahead of class time.

When I had the chance to take an elective I chose a psychology course, and I have never stopped being fascinated with the brain. I believe that it is more important to teach children how to learn than it is to force them to learn.
