In this flexible schedule class (no live meetings), students will learn basic training techniques for taming, handling, building trust and training their hamster.

One of the most frequent questions and concerns about having a pet hamster is how to tame them and handle/hold them. After that, more advanced training can come into play. The basics have to be mastered first. We will learn about simple techniques and tips to aid with this no matter where your learner is at in their level of hamster knowledge and care.

Week One: How to Tame Your Hamster and Build Trust with Your Pet
Week Two: How to Practice Leading Your Hamster (prepping for handling/holding)
Week Three: How to Hold/Handle Your Hamster
Week Four: Advanced Training (going through a hoop, leading through an obstacle course and standing on hind legs)

The class will be taught in a flexible schedule format meaning students will be updated with lessons at the beginning of the week and have practice assignments to complete. Students will be highly engaged with the use of video tutorials, uploading videos of their progress, spending time interacting as a class on posts to encourage each other and ask questions, and finally having resources to refer to even after class.

As a teacher, I'm highly interactive and believe students learn best when they are able to synthesize information for themselves so you will find there are several posts that include open ended questions or scenarios for learners to consider.

Training and learning to handle hamsters takes practice over time. It can be easier for some hamsters than others so the material learned in this class is meant to be taken and then practiced over the course of several weeks; extending even beyond the 4 week class. It's important to note that taking this class means committing to practicing with your hamster every day and sticking to the guidelines.

As the teacher, I will be available through the weeks for questions and concerns. If needed, a meeting may be scheduled to go over more specific concerns although this class does not have live meetings built in.

Since this class is dealing with an animal that has the ability to bite, it is VERY important that your learner understands that following the guidelines for training is imperative. It should also be considered that a parent helps with the training, at least in the taming process, if the learner is very apprehensive. Hamsters are NOT aggressive animals. They are prey animals and are naturally nervous and extremely aware of their surroundings. They bite when startled or feel threatened. If you have a situation where you think your hamster is being aggressive, please contact me for further instruction.

I'm an avid hamster lover. I've had 8 hamsters throughout the course of my life and have tamed and handled all of them. I am not a veterinarian or professional animal trainer so I cannot give medical advice. My experience has helped me be able to help others.
