Do you prefer to wear cloth masks over disposable masks? Are you eager to use your new fabric to make your own personalized cloth mask? Do you want to help the community by making cloth masks and donating to a worthy cause? Then this class is for you! In this class, learners will learn how to hand sew an easy cloth mask that can be used by both children and adults. Learners are also welcome to machine sew this mask if they wish, but machine sewing skills will not be taught in this class. Supplies Needed: 1. Fabric, about three 6" x 9" pieces are needed, for one adult-sized mask, but you can get as much fabric and make as many masks as you wish! A "fat quarter" can be used to make a mask. A fat quarter is a precut piece of material measuring 18 inches x 22 inches. Sold in craft stores or in the fabric/section sections of big chain stores. Fat quarters are usually colorful, cheap, 100% cotton. Each fat quarter will make two adult masks. Any material can be used but 100% cotton is preferable for comfort and durability. (Fabric should be prewashed before being used to make a mask.) 2. 1/8" flat Elastic or 1/16" round elastic, 5-7 inches for each mask depending on the head size. (flat elastic is easiest to use when hand sewing.) 3. Sharp scissors 4. Thread 5. Hand needles, (or machine needles if using a sewing machine.) 6. Sewing pins and pincushion (Safety pins can do in a pinch but are not as effective to use.) 7. Measuring tape, ruler, or another way to measure fabric and elastic. 8. Iron and ironing board 9. Pencil or fabric-marking chalk ⚠️Please Note⚠️ The teacher will demonstrate creating a mask by hand-sewing and hand sewing skills will be taught. Students are welcome to machine sew their masks if they prefer, but the teacher will not be teaching how to use a sewing machine in this class.
