Week 2 *Describe how the stock exchange works and how it benefits companies and investors. *Explain what a company has to gain from an IPO and what the company will lose by issuing stock. *Categorize public and private company characteristics. *Identify popular stock market indexes. *Complete a case study that guides students through the process of buying, selling, and holding shares of a company. Week 3 *Describe the difference between stocks and bonds. *Define common bond terms. *Distill the top 10 things to know about bonds to the most concise description they can. *Calculate bond investments. *Categorize municipal, corporate, treasury, and zero-coupon bonds. *Assess a bonds risk. *Summarize at least three ways they can purchase a bond. *Analyze the benefits of buying a fund instead of individual bonds. Week 5 *Analyze millennials investment patterns. *Explain how diversification protects investors. *Extrapolate data from Vanguard portfolio allocation models. *Practice asset allocation using an index fund and a bond fund. *Describe why it is important to begin investing as early as possible. *Discuss some of the psychological factors that impact investor's decision making. *Compare and Contrast pros and cons of robo advisors and traditional financial advisors. *Design an investment strategy via report or slideshow for a given scenario. Week 6 *Demonstrate knowledge of basic retirement concepts. *Use a retirement calculator to calculate the amount various people will have and how much they need to retire with the given circumstances. *Categorize the characteristics of a pension, 401(k), traditional IRA, and Roth IRA. *Calculate your retirement savings goal *Explore how dollar cost averaging works through an interactive Time to Climb activity.
