Horses can't talk right? True, but they can communicate. This class will teach students about horse behavior, communicating with horses and how to understand what (we think) they're telling us. This class is a social study of how horses communicate. Horses are excellent at communicating. They use their body language and their own horsey voices to put their thoughts right out there in the open, from “I'm cranky” to “I'm hungry,” and all the way up to “I love you to pieces!” This class discusses how horses tell us things and what they're thinking about various things. They might shy away from a tiny little puddle or run away bucking at a plastic bag. They live in a herd and must communicate. Let's talk about how the herd boss talks to the rest of the herd and why they respect him/her. We'll talk about how we think horses communicate with each other as well as how they communicate with humans. Instincts as well as learned behavior with other horses are fascinating. Horses can understand humans. Maybe a tone of voice, body language, or learning certain words like "stop, go or no." Horses are one of the most intelligent animals on the planet. They understand so much and can communicate so much. Let's discuss how to communicate with them. This class will include 3 videos of sound communication, body language communication with humans and communication between horses. Students will be able to watch the videos prior to class, then during our live classroom time we will talk about them and much more detail. Learners will leave this class with a better understanding of how horses communicate with us and other horses.
学習到達目標
Student's will learn about how and why horses communicate. We discuss how we need to understand what they're telling us, both for our own safety as well as just plain fun to know. Horses are always using body language as well as sounds to communicate. We become detectives during this class and learn about how and why they "talk" to us.
Sounds: We talk about the sounds they make and why it's helpful to know what they need.
Body language: We look at movements (ears, neck, body, eyes, and even the tail) to see what they're communicating. How to tell when your horse is scared, happy, upset etc is important. It keeps us safe and helps us communicate back to them.
Our communication: We also learn how horses can understand our words (at least some of them) as well as our body language communication to give horses a cue (walk, trott or move over) and how to stay safe and have a great bond with the horse.

教師の専門知識と資格
As an instructor, I have created a series of classes called "All Things Horses". Each class combines horses with another topic (for example geography, creative writing etc) This class is a study of horse communication.
I also LOVE to have fun. Being silly and having fun is a great way for learners to learn. I enjoy coming alongside learners to have fun and learn new things.
I have over 40 years of experience with horses. I have had a passion for horses my entire life and really enjoy sharing this passion with others. I have led groups of scouts, given horseback riding lessons as well as had countless friends and family come to our home and taught them about horses, safety, riding as well as sharing my general horse knowledge. I also homeschool my children and a favorite class is Geography so I love incorporating geography into many other subjects.
