We'll also explore the far-reaching impacts of the Mongol Empire, whose unprecedented expansion under leaders like Genghis Khan connected and influenced diverse regions across Eurasia. The curriculum will highlight the Vikings' extensive voyages and societal contributions, extending from the North Atlantic to the heart of medieval Europe.

We will trace Europe's transition from fragmented feudal kingdoms to the emergence of nation-states, analyzing key historical events such as the Reconquista, the Hundred Years' War, and the Wars of the Roses for their enduring cultural and political impacts.

In exploring the Golden Age of Islam, learners will encounter an era of remarkable scientific, cultural, and economic prosperity fostered by dynasties like the Umayyads, Abbasids and Fatimids. Their intellectual and artistic achievements significantly shaped global knowledge and laid the groundwork for the Renaissance.

The course will also examine the transformative Crusades and the catastrophic effects of the Black Plague on European and Near Eastern societies, as well as the intricate civilizations of Mesoamerica and the formidable West African empires, displaying a panorama of human creativity and endurance.

As the narrative unfolds, the splendor of the Byzantine Empire emerges, with Constantinople serving as a stronghold of Christian Orthodoxy and a cultural bridge between Asia and Europe. Learners will delve into the architectural marvels like the Hagia Sophia and explore the complex political intrigues of Byzantine rulers.

Turning eastward, the course will cover the vast expanses of Russian history, from the rise of Kievan Rus through the era of the Tsars, highlighting the synthesis of Slavic traditions with Byzantine influences that shaped Russia’s unique cultural identity.

Each week, learners will find all required materials posted in the classroom, with most being digital-friendly and a select few requiring printing.  For those who prefer not to print, PDFs will be available to view on your device. Although I aim to provide enough in-class time for activities, given time limits, several brief assignments will require independent completion. Understanding our learners' busy lives, I provide ample time, at least one week, for the completion of each task and extended notice for projects.

**Medieval Moments Project
To demonstrate their grasp of the Medieval tapestry that includes Europe, Japan, and China, the expansive domains of the Mongol Empire, the intellectual zenith of the Golden Age of Islam, the intricate civilizations of Mesoamerica, and the majestic empires of West Africa, learners will engage in a creative project. They will craft an expressive short story, graphic novel, comic strip, or a series of memes that bring to life the distinctive features, daily experiences, and rich heritage of their chosen culture or empire.

**PEEPS Diorama Project
As an alternative to the Medieval Moments Project and for those who prefer a hands-on approach, the PEEPS Diorama Project presents an engaging alternative to the Medieval Moments Project. In this imaginative assignment, learners will craft a miniature, three-dimensional representation of a significant event from Medieval World History using PEEPS candies. After choosing an event that resonates with their interests, learners will draw upon classroom resources and with adult permission - additional internet resources, to brainstorm and plan their dioramas. I will offer support throughout this process, providing feedback and helping to polish their concepts. With teacher and/or adult approval secured for their project topic, learners will then move forward to create their PEEPS diorama, encapsulating the historical moment they have selected.  This project offers a unique opportunity for learners to engage with history in a creative and hands-on manner, and I look forward to witnessing their imaginative interpretations come to life.
