Join for one or multiple sections! Each section is designed to be taken independently and does not build on previous Pod sections. Students will learn and build relationships in this pod style classroom. We will meet 3 days in a row (Tue, Wed, Thu) for one hour and 30 minutes with the same group of learners each day and cover class content. This is a great option for homeschooling families, such as mine! In this 7 weeklong course we will learn about different aspects of ELA, Science, Social Studies, Geography, Writing, and enrichment curriculums. We will have a discussion based on the daily topics through a shared screen presentation. Students will be able to work on assignments and have completed work that can be used in a learning portfolio. Regular review of material covered will be done in engaging ways, such as online quiz games or illustrating concepts. Outside work is not required but opportunities to extend classroom work is given once or twice a week. Note taking will also introduced, modeled and encouraged throughout class time. Learners will have opportunities to have input on topics within the subjects to encourage their involvement and increase interest. We will begin class with a homeroom type format of sharing and guided discussions. This social time builds relationships and creates a positive learning environment for all students. There will be a break halfway through class for any snacks, stretching, or any brain breaks. A weekly newsletter will be provided with end of week notes and any materials needed for the upcoming week. Reminders and opportunities to print materials and gather supplies will occurs at the beginning of class and break time. The following format will be followed for each class, just with different start times. 9:30-11AM EST 9:30 - 9:35 Homeroom 9:35 - 10:15AM Class 10:15 - 10:20 Brain Break 10:20 - 10:55AM Class 10:55 - 11AM Wrap up & Social Time Tuesday: US Geography and US History - Learners will be provided with a worksheet to use and track information covered each week. Each session will focus on a different region and time period. Some of the topics we will cover over the year are the following: Colonization Revolutionary War Westward Expansion Civil War & Reconstruction Industrial America Wednesday: Science and Elective -alternating between Science - Biology and Ecology will be the focus for the year. We will study a different biome each session. Experiments and worksheets will be used to reinforce lessons. The biomes we will cover over the year are the following: Dessert Tundra Grasslands Ocean Freshwater Electives - Each semester will focus on different subjects. The subjects covered throughout the year will include Art, Music, Health and STEM. This will also be a time for students to share their own interests and hobbies with the class. Each session will have at least one STEM day dedicated to hands on activities. Thursday: Math and Language Arts with Vocabulary weekly - Writing Prompts every other week. Some of the Language Arts topics we will cover over the year are the following: Graphic Organizers Similes and Metaphors Fact, Opinion and Inferences Steps in writing process Predicates Text Analysis Compare and Contrast Summarizing Math - Learners will use individualized math program to complete work at own pace. Some of the Math topics we will cover over the year are the following: Fractions Multiplication Division Lines and Angles Week 1 - 7 Tuesday: Geography and History Wednesday: Science and Elective Thursday: Math and Language Art with vocabulary Missing class happens, and in that situation just send a message if you would like notes on what was covered in class. Each subject always begins with a brief review to help account for any missed class. Ms. Maria will be available for any individual assistance at an agreed time with the parent and student through the classroom, as often as needed. This is an inclusive class in which students of all abilities are welcome. If a student is unable or uncomfortable communicating verbally, they are welcome to use the chat. If your student has any other needs that require accommodations, please let me know and we will work develop a way for your learner to participate in a way that they are able.

Nearpod and Kahoot are tools that are used in this class. A link will be shared in the chat on days that they will be used. There is no account needed as I will be screen sharing and providing a direct link. Please do not hesitate to ask any questions for clarification.

Materials will be created by the teacher and uploaded to the classroom a week before. Supply lists for our upcoming experiments will be shared at least 7 days before class begins. Some sites that may be used are Google Earth and National Geographic.

My name is Maria, and I am a homeschooling mom. I have 9 years of classroom experience in the private school setting with elementary through middle school. I have a BS in Interdisciplinary Studies with concentrations in Communication and Business Admin. My minor is in Conflict Analysis and Dispute Resolution. I have been homeschooling for two years, as well as a teacher in our co-ops. For the last 7 years, I have been a scout leader for both Cub Scouts and Girl Scouts. I was a team manager for Destination Imagination for 5 years. I also have experience with learners who may have learning disabilities and neuro-divergent learners.
