Some of the most fascinating stories of all time come from actual events that are beyond what the imagination could concoct. The stories of the people and events that make up the past have incredible and often untold stories. It is my goal to teach students in this class the details that are often overlooked starting from the Revolutionary war and continuing to The Cold War. Each lesson will stand alone and students may join the class at any point. Every lesson will include a worksheet which students can fill out during class. The format for instruction will include a time for active note taking with slides and images, discussion, and a fun trivia game at the end of each class. It is my goal to inspire curiosity and interest in each student. I aim for students to leave class each week excited to tell others what they have learned and motivated to learn more. Objectivity is my highest priority when teaching history. Each lesson will provide information from multiple perspectives. This class is not intended to be an opinion course, and will focus only on facts. Discussion among students on each week’s topic is encouraged but never required. Lesson order is as follows: April 3, 2023 Transcontinental Railroad April 10, 2023: Gilded Age April 17, 2023: War of the Currents April 24, 2023: Turn of the Century May 1, 2023 : WW1 May 8, 2023: Roaring 20’s

Parents should be advised that much of the material in this class will focus on wars throughout history, however, I do not intend on discussing any graphic details of violent elements. Additionally, sensitive language and social issues may be addressed as part of historic events. Age appropriateness is at the forefront of all of my lesson planning. This class will follow the curriculum recommendations of the state of Colorado for 5th grade students. I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education with a declared minor in Psychology. I am also in the process of earning a master's in history. In addition to my degree, which covers all academic subjects taught at the Elementary level, I have also completed multiple courses on American history and Western Civilization. My focus on Psychology brings insight to studying individuals and events to be discussed from a historical standpoint. As a teacher, I have taught over 800 online classes, including a variety of history courses, and I am familiar with effective course formats.
