There are many types of poems. I am going to introduce to the students the Japanese haiku. We will have a discussion about them and learn some back history. I will show some examples of old-style haikus, and then some fun haikus other students have created. The students will then brainstorm ideas for a class haiku. Then they will have the chance to create their own haiku and share it with the class if they so desire. The students in this class will be free to share their ideas with everyone...

The only materials needed are a way to record their poem, such as paper and pencil, or a whiteboard.
