このクラスで学べること

In this ongoing private tutoring session the student will learn the timeless skill of hand sewing.

Each session will be tailored to fit the specific needs, assistance, and questions the student has in that stage of the project they have chosen to work on.

I will provide instruction and assistance as the student learns to plan, choose project, and fabric, cut, sew, and finish pieces of their choice.

Pieces made and duration of the project will be determined by the student and the class can be stopped at any point they feel they have accomplished their goal.

The class sessions will be casual, conversational, and very hands on - with room for lots of discussion and sharing.

All levels of sewing experience are welcome... from beginner to advanced.

For new sewists, we'll start by covering the basics they will need to know when creating their own hand-sewing kit, and then begin learning a variety of simple stitches used when sewing by hand. As student's confidence and skills grow, projects will be chosen to match their abilities.

** Our first class session will be used for skill assessment and project planning, unless otherwise agreed through messages.

I've been sewing since I was about 8 years old. I am an avid home sewist of everyday clothing, housewares, children's items, cosplay costuming, and many other sewn textile items. I've worked professionally in several living history museums, for over more than 18 years, creating my all my own professional costuming for various time periods in history... as well as researching and writing staff costuming standards guides for two museums and drafting patterns from photographs and historic garments in the collection. My extended family lives near Colonial Williamsburg, where I have visited many times, taking part in several workshops related to historic textile arts. I currently consult as a domestic and textile historian for Great Smokey Mountain Heritage Center.
