A growth mindset is a belief that the ability to learn is not fixed. It can change with your efforts. When kids learn how the brain changes and grows in response to challenges and failures they persevere because they don’t believe failure is a permanent condition. ~Angela Duckworth

This weekly class is designed to help students develop and strengthen their growth mindset over time. Each week, we will explore how different mindsets manifest themselves (fixed mindset vs. growth mindset) through a variety of relatable examples.

In addition to learning about different mindsets, students will also build confidence in their ability to tackle challenging tasks by sharing and celebrating their struggles and mistakes each week. By embracing these experiences, students will become more resilient and have a positive way to look at challenges and mistakes.

Throughout the year students will have a deeper understanding of what it means to have a growth mindset and how to apply it in their lives. They will be equipped with the tools and strategies needed to take on challenges and pursue their goals with confidence and perseverance.

We will discuss weekly topics that support the development of a strong growth mindset. These topics are all listed below.

🚀 The first 10
The first few minutes of class are always open for students to share or report any “fun/excitement/challenges” in their lives. We then jump right into a fun trivia type game to practice understanding both fixed and growth mindsets. This part of class will move quickly, new learners are NOT expected to know the answers, but can make their best guess and learn from their mistakes.

🌱The second 10 will focus on a the topic of the week

🏁 The last five minutes students will make connections to their own lives by sharing examples related to the weekly topic.
We end each class with a weekly affirmation.

Each week you will see a post in the classroom with a short summary of what was taught, an optional extension activity, and ways grown ups can help support their learners at home. You can find this post by scrolling down from where learners enter the classroom.

***If your student is new to learning about mindsets please refer to the welcome message activities to help them prepare for their first class. This class does not build in a way that would require a learner to attend previous classes, all students are welcome anytime.

I am constantly re-working and organizing the order of the list below to optimize learning. Please also note I DO NOT repeat my lessons. I repeat topics and teach them in new ways.

I have a degree in elementary education and have been working with kids through teaching, coaching, and childcare for over 15 years. I have extensive experience and expertise working with ESL learners. Also, I am raising three boys of my own ( ages 1, 5 & 8). I am often inspired to create classes that cover subjects I find important in my own parenting journey. I am a lifelong learner and an avid reader. To support my curriculum development I dedicate significant time to reading, listening, and learning about the most current research on child development, teaching, and parenting.
