In this beginners' ukulele class, Students will learn to play the ukulele, while leaning in different hand positions, holding the pick, and proper finger formation. We will cover the difference between “notes” and “chords". Reading strum marks, music measures, and chord frames. This class is great for students who are beginners or who have already played the guitar before and would like to increase their skill level. Steve Housewright has been teaching guitar and ukulele for 25 years. He has taught privately, in music stores, in afterschool programs, in schools, libraries, and online. He has been the director of the music education nonprofits, Strings Attached and the Sir Charles Blues Lab, and supported by many major music education foundations over the past two decades. He is also a Teaching Artist Fellow with the Jubilation Foundation and Tides Foundation.
For Ukulele Younger kids ages 5 to 8: Ukulele Class uses the “Ukulele for Kids: Method and Songbook” by Chad Johnson. Continuing students are encouraged to own their own copy of the book (with audio access) for practice at home. Published by Hal Leonard Publishing. Digital and hard copies are available. Ages 8 to 18: Ukulele Class uses the “Ukulele Method Book 1” by Lil’ Rev and “Essential Elements for Ukulele Book 1” by Marty Gross.. Continuing students are encouraged to own their own copy of the books (audio access included) for practice at home. Both books are published by Hal Leonard Publishing. Digital and hard copies are available.
