Have you ever come across a new, challenging word while you're reading that you can't quite figure out the meaning of? That's why learning Greek, Latin, and Anglo-Saxon prefixes, suffixes, and base words and their meanings are so important! When you can "dissect" a word by its word parts and know their meanings, it can help you define the whole word, even if you've never heard it before. In this class, we will study a total of 16 Latin and Greek morphemes/word parts and learn how to identify them in words that we read. In addition, because we will be looking at a wide range of words and sentences, we will have the opportunity to review other spelling rules, patterns, etc. as they arise. We will learn our morphemes through literature, visuals, decoding words, hand motions, and other multi-sensory practice methods and examples. Each week, we will focus on two new morphemes (either Greek or Latin). Our first meeting of the week will focus on introducing our morphemes, and the second day will be review and practice. While the content doesn't build from week to week since we will be learning new morphemes each week, there may be a few minutes of review in each new week to help keep what we have learned fresh in our minds from week to week. If you are joining/starting this class any time after the actual start date, I recommend joining at the first class of a new week so you don't miss the introduction lesson for the new word parts. *Please make sure to have the worksheets and materials for each lesson printed and ready before each class as they are essential to completing the class. I will have any new materials/sheets posted in the Classroom section of our course before the first class of the new week.
