DESCRIPTION
This ongoing introduction-level class is ideal for tweens who are interested in pursuing a career in health care and want to prepare their vocabularies for higher level courses in STEM fields. This class is also for students who are interested in learning lots of Greek/Latin roots to improve their vocabularies!

Classes meet once per week and each class is independent of others. No experience in anatomy or science needed.

Please note that this is a vocabulary-focused class. I am not a healthcare professional, and this class is NOT a biology course. Students will explore medical terms and conditions through word parts, combining prefixes, suffixes, and roots. All terms are connected to words in the medical field. Although this class is intended to make learning the sciences easier (90% of all scientific terminology is comprised of Greek/Latin roots), it is a vocabulary/English-focused class.

Please also note that this class focuses only on medical language and will not be offering any medical advice, therapy, or treatment.

🚩🚩🚩Also, do note that NO information/discussions/images/terms regarding reproductive systems, sexual health, or anything related to that nature will be discussed throughout the course. These are topics best explored with parents and/or health professionals.

LESSON STRUCTURE
1. Welcome
2. What do you know about... discussion
3. Introduce roots/words (with images and discussion questions)
4. Practice questions and/or review game (Blooket/Gimkit)!

Quizlet list if students want to practice posted each week. No additional homework is required. Please contact me if you would like additional practice for your learner.

EXPECTATIONS
To be successful in this course, students should be able to read fluently at a 6th-grade reading level. Students should be respectful to all learners.

PARTICIPATION:
Students may choose to keep cameras on or off as long as they briefly verify themselves with me at the beginning of the class (per Outschool policy). I do expect participation in this class. We cover quite a bit of material and it is essential that students discuss and understand the material. Being active participants helps them do so.

MISSED CLASSES
If your student misses a class, a recording will always be accessible on the classroom page. The PowerPoint lesson and notes are always available as well.

REFUND POLICY
If your student is not able to attend in person but stays enrolled, refunds will not be issued. This is because the student can still access the materials, recordings, and receive feedback for assignments. I do provide refunds for emergency situations.
