Each week we will learn about a great work from world history. We'll survey great literature, art, architecture and more. We study Monet because... 1. We want to be educated members of the human race, but also because... 2. The way our hearts are moved when we look at a work by Monet. Who was Plato? What's his Allegory in the Cave all about? What about the poem "If" by Rudyard Kipling. How did Kipling's life as the son of a British diplomat growing up in India give him a unique life experience that would allow him to write Jungle Book? How and why was the Taj Mahal built in India? Who was Confucius and what's up with his sayings? These classes are designed to introduce students to important people, places, and ideas in history. Teaching this class is the highlight of my week. I wake up on Thursday mornings and begin researching an inspiring piece. I'm inspired, and it's such a priveldge to share that inspiration with my students. We've covered what Alexander Dumas has in common with Michael Jordan. Discussed the concept of a life poem and I continue to work with the students in figuring out their own individual life poem. We've talked about Ben Franklin and Thomas Paine, Monet and Marie Antoinette. I love teaching this class and would love to have you join us. The goal of the class is that we will follow a line -- that what we talk about one week would lead us to naturally talk about something the following week -- and that we won't get stuck on one genre too long. Join us for great discussions of Great Works from around the world! Over time students will develop a broad understanding of the humanities and important people, places, and ideas in history. I remember first being exposes to some of these authors and ideas as a kind and how inspired I was -- how my heart got pumping! I want to share that experience with the students in my classes!

We live in a big and fascinating world and one of my goals with my classes is to help kids develop an interest and appreciation for the world around them and different cultures. My classes draw from my own experiences as a world traveler. I've visited and lived abroad in 22 different countries. In high school my friends and I started our own Dead Poet's Society. I'm a lifelong student of history and I'm also the former deputy director of the historic home of President Ronald Reagan. In 2010 was a candidate for United States Congress.
