このクラスで学べること
When did graffiti start? What's the difference between street art and graffiti? Why do artists create unsanctioned art? In this one-time course, we'll dive into these questions and more! Covering major graffiti writers from the American graffiti movement and street artists of today, we'll learn about major artists who have influenced public (and sometimes illegal) art and see how street art is changing the way we see our communities and the environment around us! This class will include a teacher-led discussion (including a presentation with images and videos) during which students are encouraged to ask questions, assert their opinions, and think critically about the art they see. However, students may participate in whatever ways they feel comfortable - whether that means speaking, typing, or listening. After class, students will also have access to all course materials and extra resources for extended learning :) For more on street art, be sure to check out "Street Art: Off the Wall!", "Women of Street Art", and "Gamifying Street Art"!

Welcome to Outschool!
I'm Stephanie Gill, an endlessly curious teacher with an equal love for teaching and learning! My primary focus is using art and design as a way of further exploring important topics in history, current events, and environmentalism.
I have an M.A.Ed in Art Education and a B.A. in Art History/Studio Art and have been teaching with Outschool since 2018. Before joining Outschool, I taught visual art at a charter school in Atlanta, GA as the art specialist for K-6 learners and collaborated with teachers to design arts-integrated lessons and activities to enhance student learning in History, Science, Math, and English/Language Arts.
Teaching Philosophy:
In my classes, your child can expect to learn a lot of new content and techniques, but what's even more important to me is that they leave their classes with more excitement (and questions!) than before. I'm a firm believer in the power of thinking critically, asking questions, and listening to the thoughts of others, so my classes have many discussion opportunities. However, all learners are welcome to participate in whatever ways they are comfortable - whether this means engaging in discussion verbally or through typing, or even just listening/observing. I am constantly striving to create an online class environment with a diverse range of learners in mind, so if you have additional concerns, don't hesitate to contact me.
What you can expect:
My classes include presentations rich with information (images and sometimes short videos), guiding questions, and opportunities for discussion. At the end of class, students will also receive extra links and videos for extended learning. Although I do not offer FLEX classes at the moment, learners are welcome to watch the class video at their leisure and will also have access to the extra materials for additional learning on their own time. All learners may also use the Outschool classroom portal to ask me questions and share their thoughts after our scheduled class time as necessary.
A bit more about me:
When I'm not teaching, I'm most likely researching, writing, cooking, drawing pictures of plants, or rearranging furniture in my apartment.
I can't wait to see your students in the classroom!
