What will be taught?
In this live class, students will learn and practice 12 basic embroidery stitches and use what they have learned to create a their own beautiful embroidery design. If the weeks posted do not work for your learner, please feel free to reach out to me. I am happy to add sections to meet the needs of families.

Topics and Course Structure:
Each week I will demonstrate 4 basic embroidery stitches. I will explain each stitch in detail as well as record myself completing each stitch so that students may go back and review throughout the week. I have also created this class as a flex course if that works better for your schedule.

Specific topics that will be taught each week.
Week 1 - Students will be able to thread the needle, set up the fabric in the embroidery hoop, and complete 4 basic stitches (Running Stitch, Back Stitch, and Stem Stitch)
Week 2 - Students will be able to complete the Split Stitch, Chain Stitch, Blanket Stitch, and Straight Stitch.
Week 3 - Students will learn fill stitches like the Satin Stitch, and the Long and Short Stitch. The Lazy Daisy, Bullion Knot and the woven wheel will also be demonstrated.
Week 4 - Students will review and practice any of the basic stitches. They can begin planning the design for their individual project.
Week 5 - Students will use the embroidery stitches they learned to create their own embroidery design.
Week 6 - Students will complete their designs

I am also available to correspond with students using the classroom discussion board. I will always respond to students and families within 24 hours.

How will I teach?
For this course, I will do a live demonstration of each stitch as well as upload prerecord a detailed demonstration of each embroidery stitch. Students may ask questions through the classroom discussion and I will respond within 24 hours.

Learners do not need to begin this course with any prior knowledge. I will begin the course explaining how to thread an embroidery needle, knot the thread and how to load the fabric into the embroidery hoop.

As a high school Family and Consumer Science teacher I have found that many of my students find embroidery relaxing and can sometimes help with students self-care routines. Students take pride in learning a new skill, following through and completing a project.

受講に必要なもの
An Embroidery Hoop 4" or 6" will work sufficiently.

2 9"X9" pieces of fabric. The best fabric for embroidery practice I have found is muslin. For the final project, you may want to use a plain colored lightweight cotton. In my classroom, I use broad cloth.

Embroider Needles. - I suggest purchasing a multi pack of embroider needles. Make sure they have the sharp end and will come in a range of sizes through 12. Having a variety of needle sizes will allow students to select the needle what will work best for the fabric they have chosen and the thickness of the embroidery floss.

Embroidery floss in an assortment of colors.

A light colored pencil or chalk. I find a yellow or white colored pencil works best on colored broadcloth. A regular pencil will work for the embroidery sampler if done on unbleached muslin.

As a high school Family and Consumer Sciences Teacher, I have many years of experience teaching sewing skills to students. Teaching embroidery is one of my favorite units to teach, this unit allows students to learn a skill that many consider good for relaxing self-care.
