 Week 1
Lesson 1
Creating Your System
Students will create and understand the need for an individualized system to memorize the theorems, postulates, properties, formulas, definitions, symbols, constructions, and more in high school geometry. Students will learn an effective method for taking notes. Students will discuss a variety of study techniques.
Lesson 2
Naming Figures and Other Common Mistakes
Students will learn how to correctly name and label geometric figures and will understand why this is important. Students will examine several mistakes commonly made in high school geometry. Students will discuss ways to avoid common mistakes and work more efficiently. Students will identify their strengths and weaknesses in necessary Algebra 1 skills.
 Week 2
Lesson 3
Constructions and Calculations
Students will learn why "constructions" has a specific meaning, specific tools, and specific methods in high school geometry. Students will become proficient in using a variety of hand-held and digital calculators and drawing tools.
Lesson 4
Geometry Proofs
Students will learn three common formats for geometry proofs. Students will learn strategies for writing geometric proofs. Students will prove a few basic theorems.

I have taught and tutored math for over 20 years at a range of levels and diverse learning abilities, including 13 years teaching online. My master’s degrees and state teaching certificates are in Secondary Mathematics Education, Education of the Academically Gifted, and Adult Education. I have been recognized by the Mathematical Association of America and received their Sliffe Award for Distinguished Mathematics Teaching. My teaching philosophy is to meet students where they are in their understanding and empower them with skills to build the future they desire. Improving executive function skills (such as time and energy management) is intertwined with my teaching of math skills.

I have 20+ years of experience teaching (and parenting!) students with a Section 504 Plan (IAP) or Individual Education Program (IEP), gifted & twice-exceptional students, and students with ADHD, while maintaining high academic standards.
Students should have successfully completed Algebra 1. A review of relevant Algebra 1 skills will be provided as needed.
The following supplies are recommended for successful mastery of skills: two notebooks or binders of loose leaf paper, pencils, and colored pencils or pens. If a student does not have access to a handheld or digital calculator other than a smartphone, I will recommend a free online scientific calculator (includes sine, cos, tan). If a student is unable to write, accommodations will be made.
Every student is unique, and differences will be respected in a safe environment. If a student is unable to write, accommodations will be made.
