Get ready for a Swahili adventure ! Join our interactive class twice a week for 40 mins. I'm here to make Swahili super fun and easy! I will take learners on a safari to the beautiful countries in East Africa. This class targets interested learners between the ages of 3 to 14 years. Although there is a defined syllabus, students will get their lessons tailored to their needs. In this highly interactive and conversational class, I will be teaching learners all the basics that will allow you to interact in the language; Week to week we would explore the topics listed in the syllabus. Bonus: Youtube videos, proverb of the day and Swahili songs are provided so as to boost learning. This is just a sample and can be changed based on your needs. The Review Sessions will be mainly to reinforce learning and help recall and understand each learner's area of improvement. Here is a brief outline of the class syllabus: Week 1: Greetings and respectful terms that accompany other forms of greetings -Students will learn about different ways to use greetings with regards to context and respect in the Swahili culture. Week 2: Personal Pronouns and Possessive Pronouns -This lesson provides a concise overview on variations of personal and possessive pronouns and each in their respective singular and plural forms Week 3: Domestic Animals -This is a fun lesson where students get to acquaint themselves with farm animals using illustrations and videos. Week 4: Languages, countries and nationalities -Students will learn about how Swahili culture views different languages and nationalities Week 5: Locations -Students will learn how to talk about locations, give directions and introducing themselves in detail Week 6: Family -Students get to learn about the conventional Swahili family structure and the community in general Week 7: Various personalities and professions -An overview of how Swahili lists various personalities and professions Week 8: Tenses -An introduction to the five basic tenses used in Swahili Week 9: Numbers and Counting -Students will learn about numbers, fractions and the order in which they are stated. Additionally, there is an introduction to the use of numbers and noun classes Week 10: Days of the Week and Months of the Year -Students will learn about the pattern of the days of the week and the origin of the difference between the Swahili week and the English week Week 12: Time -An introduction into the basics of how to tell time in Swahili Week 13: Food -Students get exposed to the different tastes and smells of Swahili cultural foods through videos and illustrations. Students also learn about the vast array of spices that Swahili culture has to offer. Week 15: Fruits -Students get to see the different fruits that are predominant in the Swahili-speaking nations. Week 16: Weather and the Environment -Students learn how to tell the weather patterns, seasons and also get an introduction on planets and the solar system. Week 17: Dialogue -Students get to learn common conversational phrases that they can use when engaging in dialogue. This is a fun an interactive lesson where students can apply what they have learnt over the course of the weeks with their peers in class.

I've taught in church,Sunday school for little kids aged between 5-16 and teenagers upto 21. I've also had a lot of experience as a tutor for a Swahili class while at McGill University. I currently get requests from folks from all ages, ranging from people who are planning to visit East Africa to those who are just trying to learn Swahili for fun.
