We use Kathy Blocki’s Flute Zoo series to learn the flute. This series focuses on creating a great tone on the flute and flexibility to play in octaves, delaying more complex rhythms (when compared to other series) in favor of this foundation. Young learners love the colorful illustrations in the book, and as they progress, the accompanying sticker book to learn scale patterns is also well-loved! Additionally, each song has an online track that students can use to help them hear the music and learn it. We play games that reinforce musical concepts. Students can expect to learn note reading, rhythms, as well as sound production on a flute. Because of the nature of this class, content continually builds. Try to commit to the whole year to really give your child a chance to learn the flute. Practicing daily is vital to learning the flute. In the first few weeks, it may only be 5 minutes a day. After a few months, students should expect to practice 15 minutes per day. Class alone does not build the muscle memory needed to learn an instrument. I recommend building it into your routine so that students get into the habit of playing every day. It is important to note that students of this age range are not yet independent enough to practice on their own. Parents will need to attend the class to understand how to help their child practice. The syllabus is a rough outline, but due to the nature of learning an instrument, we may move faster or slower based on student need. If you have siblings and one is just a little older than 10 and you want them in the same class together, you can enroll both of them here. Otherwise, I recommend older students to enroll in the Fun First Flute Class (Ages 11+). 5 year olds who have finished all three levels of my Rootin' Tootin' Pre-Flute-N Class are welcome to join.

受講に必要なもの
Flute (reach out to me directly for help making a selection) Blocki's Flute Zoo Book 1 Pneumo Pro Music Stand Pencils Laptop instead of mobile device for zoom meetings. This is because the Zoom mobile app lacks certain sound settings and often filters out the flute entirely. That's a problem for a flute class.
