このクラスで学べること
Let's enter a world of myths and fables! In this camp, we will explore our favourite myths and discover new ones too through the world of theatre. We will play lots of fun drama games, act out stories from around the world, create skits based on famous tales, and perform a published fable-based script where all campers will get a creative role. I am an experienced youth theatre director who has taught drama classes and camps for many years and even directed several full-length productions with a cast of children and youth. I have also extensively incorporated drama into my teaching practice as an elementary school teacher. My greatest passion is theatre and I love passing it on to all the children I work with. This camp will be suitable for those with a background in theatre, and those who want to explore theatre for the first time. Day 1: On the first day of camp, we will play myth and fable-based games to get to know each other and activate our imaginations, explore the definitions of myths and fables, and make a series of tableaux images that tell the story of a famous myth. We will also hold just-for-fun auditions for roles in our play. Day 2: On the second day of camp, we will act out a few examples of famous myths and fables, explore myths through improvisation, and receive roles in our fable-based play. We will begin making or finding in our homes any we need for the performance. Day 3: On the third day of camp, we will explore a variety of physical and vocal exercises to help us transform into mythological characters, collaborate to create our own myth, continue to play lots of myth-themed games and improvisation exercises, rehearse our fable play and find costumes in our wardrobes to wear as our characters. Day 4: On the fourth day of camp, we will create new mythological characters and deliver an on-camera monologue for that character, continue to explore wacky myth-based improvisation exercises, and hold our final rehearsals for our fable play. We will make sure we have all the props and costumes we need for the performance ready and even create backdrops that we can use during the performance. Day 5: On the fifth day of camp, it's performance day! We will learn how actors get ready for performances, play fun games to calm any pre-show jitters, and perform our play! At the end of the day, each camper will receive a unique certificate recognizing the unique strengths they brought to our camp fable.

Some myths can include fantasy-based violence and frightening creatures. Child-friendly versions of each myth and fable will be used so content will remain age appropriate. At some times during this camp, I will use breakout rooms to allow campers to collaborate together when coming up with a skit. I will use different devices to be physically present in each breakout room in case any concerns or questions arise, but will allow the campers to take the lead in terms of coming up with the skit and practicing with their group. I want their creativity to be able to shine!
受講に必要なもの
Campers will need to use prop and costume items from around their houses for their performance. They will also need paper and pencil crayons or markers to design backdrops and props.

教師の専門知識と資格
I am an experienced youth theatre director and elementary school teacher, passionate about introducing children to the world of theatre. I hold an English and Theatre degree from the University of British Columbia, in which I was able to explore stories and storytelling traditions from diverse countries and cultures. I then took my Education degree with a specialization in Indigenous Education, which gave me tools and best practices in introducing not only Indigenous content but also content from other marginalized cultures to classes I lead. I bring this experience with me into my teaching practice in all capacities.
