In this class, students will learn all about atomic models, structures, and electron configurations. In the first week of the class, we will spend the first meeting talking about the "thought experiments" conducted by the ancient Greeks, along with the discoveries and models developed by John Dalton, J. J. Thomson, and Ernest Rutherford. The second meeting will involve a Kahoot! game to test student comprehension. In the second week of class, we will talk about the Bohr model of the atom...
Students will learn the history of the model of the atom and the names of the people associated with each model. Students will learn vocabulary associated with atoms. Students will learn how to find the change in energy in an electron when it moves from one orbital to another using the Bohr model. Students will learn how to write electron configurations in s-p-d-f notation.
In December 2020, I received my Bachelor's of Science in Nuclear Engineering. I guess you could say that "atoms are my thing"!
