このクラスで学べること
In this multi-day class, learners will have fun strengthening their reading strategies, such as making predictions, making connections to characters in the text, and making inferences as they read the story about a boy who wants to change his appearance for a very funny reason. There are 5 small chapters in this book, with each chapter consisting of approximately 4-5 pages (depending on which version you use.) The readings will be divided between the 2 class days. Learners will interact with each other through the readings, discussions of the readings, such as questions to consider regarding the decisions/behavior of the characters and through activities at the end of of each class meeting to reinforce what they learned. The activities may be a creative writing activity; arts-based assignment; or oral communication activity. My teaching style is very conversational and relaxed. Students will be given an option as to which activity they prefer to complete at the end of each class meeting. There is no need to read the book prior to class, as we will be reading it in class. No previous experience or knowledge is needed.

Learners will need a copy of the book “Freckle Juice.” Author: Judy Blume. There are a couple versions of the book --hardback with a picture of a boy on the front and a soft back version with a picture of a jar labeled "freckle juice." Your learner can use either because the words are the same in both, but the illustrations differ only slightly. This book is available at most public libraries - hard-copy or as a free downloadable. The learner does not need to read this book prior to class, but each learner needs to bring their copy to class because we will be reading from the book each day.
