このクラスで学べること
In these sessions, we will learn 3 sounds: ai, ee, igh and then a final recap week. The recap week is important as it helps with repetition, and consolidation of learned skills. All the sounds will be mixed up and that will ensure that the learners are able to recognise them with other sounds, rather than just as an isolated skill. Each week we will learn what the graphemes /written representations look like, and the sound it makes and practice reading and spelling words using the sounds. There will be lots of blending and segmenting practice using 'Fred' talk, counting sounds and movement. This approach is similar to the Orton Gillingham teaching method. Challenges will be set each for you to complete if you wish, and I would love you to share your activities with me once they are complete if you wish to do so. I will create an introductory video introducing myself and the course when the class begins. At the beginning of the week, I will attach the videos/video links for the week's learning so that you are able to assess the videos as and when you would like. Throughout the week, I will add resources to support the videos and learning taking place. Videos are between 8-20 minutes long in line with research according to children's attention spa. Resources may include formation/writing of the sound, activity card, word card to support spelling, word search and real and nonsense word sort. The link to the videos will be posted at the beginning of each week. Weeks 1-3: The video learning will include: 1. An introduction to the sound and formation. 2. Reading/blending and spelling/segmenting using the week's sound. 3. Real and nonsense word reading - this activity helps the learner to recognise sounds out of context to help consolidate recognition and their understanding of the sound. 4. Sound Revision. (This will include previously learned sounds: ff, ll, ss and ck for 'Musical sounds' recap videos.) Week 4: All the sounds recap. The video learning will include: 1. Real and Nonsense words using all the sounds in this flex class. 2. Segmenting to support spelling. 3. Revision of the sounds we are learning during this flex class. I would love to see what your child does throughout the week, so anything you would like to share please upload it to the classroom for me to respond and I will respond with a written or video message for your child. Week 1: The sound 'qu'. We will explore, read and spell words including rain, train, paint etc. Week 2: The sound 'nk'. We will explore, read and spell words including teeth, feet, tree. Week 3: The sound 'ng'. We will explore, read and spell words including high, bright, light etc. Week 4: All the sounds. Each session is pre-reordered. Therefore my responses to the video are filmed. After each video, your child is encouraged to practice the skill and share what they have done in the classroom, this way I will be able to respond and support them in their learning. I will post a weekly challenge to encourage interaction and learners can share what they have done and I will respond with feedback and positive praise.
