In this class, learners will review the characteristics of a personal narrative and create a writing topic.

In this class, learners will compose an outline for their expository essay.

Drafting, Revising & Editing
In this class, learners will review the requirements of a five paragraph essay and review the revision and editing focus for this essay.

Introduction to the Persuasive Essay
In this class, learners will select a persuasive topic and convince the class of certain topics in a game.

Brainstorming & The Introduction
In this class, learners will brainstorm and draft the introduction for their essay.

Drafting the Body Paragraphs, Conclusion, Revising & Editing
In this class, learners will draft body paragraphs and end their essay powerfully with a conclusion that addresses the target audience. Learners will also be reminded of revision and editing before submitting the final copy.

Introduction to the Literature Response
In this class, learners will select a piece of fiction to respond to for the literature response essay.

Selecting a topic & Drafting the Intro and Body Paragraphs
In this class, learners will select a specific topic to write about and begin drafting the introduction and body paragraphs.
 Week 12
Lesson 12
Drafting the Conclusion, Revising & Editing
In this class, learners will draft a conclusion that ends with a final connection. Learners will also review revising and editing.

Introduction to the Research Paper
In this class, learners will be introduced to the research paper and select a topic.
 Week 14
Lesson 14
Organizing Information Using Source/Note Cards
In this class, learners will learn to use source/note cards to keep track of information for their paper.

Drafting the Research Essay
In this class, learners will review the introduction, body paragraph and conclusion requirements for the final essay.
The goal of this course is for students to be able to construct a well-written narrative, expository, persuasive, literature response, and a research paper.
Students will use all the steps in the writing process. 
Students will be to write introductions with an engaging hook and a three-point thesis.
Students will be able to construct well-developed paragraphs with clear topic sentences and smooth transitions.
Students will gain an understanding of the importance of reviewing written work for conciseness, clarity, and grammar. 
Students will be able to cite sources.
Students will adhere to the standard conventions and mechanics of English grammar.

Students will submit final drafts of their typed essay within one week after each unit ends. All submissions will receive feedback. Essays are due on the 3rd, 6th, 9th, 12th, and 15th week of class. I encourage timeliness, however, as a flexible scheduled instructor, assignments will be given feedback as they are submitted. My focus is on the writing practice and implementation of feedback, not due dates.

GoogleDocs does require the use of a gmail account. Please ensure your learner has an account set up. This platform will be used for submitting writing and receiving feedback on written assignments. 
Please Note:  You can create a Google Account for your child under 13 (or the applicable age in your country), and manage it using Family Link. With Google Accounts, children get access to Google products like Search, Chrome, and Gmail, and you can set up basic digital ground rules to supervise them.
