This unit course gives your learner a better understanding of how numbers work. Throughout this program, young learners will understand the relationship between addition and subtraction and explore numbers to 100. From basic concepts to practical applications, students will delve into the fundamental principles of mathematics through interactive lessons, colorful visuals, and activities. Optional videos are also included where students can check their work, so they can be independent and learn from their success and mistakes. By the end of the course, your child will be able to confidently identify fact families, master basic addition and subtraction facts, and develop problem-solving skills that will set a strong foundation for their mathematical journey ahead. Join us on this educational adventure where learning is not only informative but also enjoyable! Unit 1: Lesson 1 Introduction to the Hundreds Chart For lesson 1 we will look at the 100's chart and learn the difference between rows and columns as well as talk about any patterns we see in the 100's Chart. Students will then have the opportunity to try several 100's chart puzzles to do on their own. Unit 1: Lesson 2 Counting Forward and Backwards Lesson 2 will consists of filling in missing numbers on a number chart as well as picking a number and figuring out what comes before an what comes after. Unit 1: Lesson 3 Ordering Numbers Lesson 3 will consists of drawing models to represent the various numbers. A concentration game will be played after class for extra practice. Unit 1: Lesson 4 Addition and Subtraction Lesson 4 will show how the number chart can help us in adding and subtracting. Unit 1: Lesson 5 Review The final lesson will consists of extra worksheets and activities to extend learning beyond a week of learning. Unit 2: Lesson 1 Creating Addition and Subtraction Sentences We will utilize objects to model addition and subtraction equations. By using manipulatives, students can physically manipulate objects to solve problems, which can greatly enhance their understanding of these fundamental arithmetic operations Unit 2: Lesson 2 Modeling Equations In this lesson we will progress to drawing visual representations of various equations in a fact family Unit 2: Lesson 3 Fact Family Houses Students will create a fact family house. Creating a fact family house not only makes learning enjoyable but also helps students visualize and internalize the concept of fact families. Unit 2: Lesson 4 Number Bonds Students will create number bonds to further understand how fact families work. They will also try to find the "mystery number." Unit 2: Lesson 5 Review Students will be given an assessment to show what they have learned. Skip Counting Unit 3: Lesson 1 Introduction to skip counting and counting by 2's For the first day we will talk about what skip counting is and model some examples on a number line. After class students will have the opportunity to put together a skip counting puzzle. Unit 3: Lesson 2 Counting by 5's Day two will focus on 5's and the pattern that is evident when we count by 5's. We will also relate how skip counting is like addition Unit 3: Lesson 3 Counting by 10's For the 3rd day we will skip count by 10 and focus on skip counting midway. For example if we start at 50 what comes next Unit 3: Lesson 4 Counting forward and backwards For the 4th day we will focus on counting forward and backwards with the 2's, 5's and 10's Unit 3: Lesson 5 Review and Assessment Students will be review what we learned during the week and an optional assessment will be given. UNIT 4 Learning to Add Unit 4 Lesson 1: Counting from 1-20 For the first day we will talk about the numbers 1-20. Students will design a math placemat as a reference tool for the week to reinforce newly acquired skills. Unit 4 Lesson 2: Adding with manipulatives Lesson two will focus on using manipulatives and visual models to help students visualize numbers Unit 4 Lesson 3: Counting On Introduce counting on as a technique to add numbers, enhancing children's grasp of addition and improving efficiency. Unit 4 Lesson 4: Number Lines Introduce a number line for adding facts. Unit 4 Lesson 5: Review and Extension Activities Students will be review what we learned during the week and post-class activities will also be given for continued practice to continually reinforce skills. UNIT 5 Learn to Subtract Unit 5 Lesson 1: Introduction to Subtraction and counting backwards from 20 Lesson 1 will focus on counting backwards from 20 while creating a rocket ship to be used as a reference tool for the rest of the week. Unit 5 Lesson 2: Subtraction within 10 using manipulatives Lesson 2 will focus on using a ten frame and math manipulatives to subtract Unit 5 Lesson 3: Subtraction from 10 counting backwards Lesson 3 will focus on solving equations by counting backwards Unit 5 Lesson 4: Subtracting from 20 using a number line Lesson 4 will focus on subtraction using a number line. Unit 5 Lesson 5: Review and extension activities Let me know if you have any further questions and/or comments and I will answer ASAP. Welcome! My name is Debbie and I am a certified teacher with a Bachelors of Science in Education with a concentration in the visual arts. I also hold Masters in Curriculum and Instruction with an emphasis on math and science. I have been lucky enough throughout my career to have taught grades K through 6 and be a math and reading interventionist. Math is one of my favorite subjects to teach and I love thinking of creative ways to get students to love it too and gain confidence.
I primarily teach math classes most popular class is my 1:1 math tutoring class, but I have expanded my classes recently to include art classes as well as thematic science classes for first, second, third and fourth grades.
