In this class your student will learn how to recognize fingerspelling and produce it. (Receptive skills and production) I like my classes to be student led, so we may have some discussion as we progress. It will depend on the student and how many students are in each class. There will be no power points used, but the teacher may post practice clips from Youtube for the students to watch. (This will help them hone their receptive skills more) Before you take this class, I recommend my One Time fingerspelling course. Breakdown by Week and Day: Week One, Day One Introductions Intro to Fingerspelling (If the student doesn't know it already) Fingerspell names Week One, Day Two Review the Alphabet Fingerspell Parent's First Names Fingerspell Animals Week Two, Day One Review the Alphabet Fingerspell Animals, Part Two Breakout Room (5-10 minutes): Practice FS with each other. The teacher will come check on you every 2-3 minutes. Week Two, Day Two Review Alphabet Fingerspell Animals, Part Three Breakout Room (5-10 minutes) Week Three, Day One Final Week of Reviewing Alphabet together Fingerspell Animals, Part Four Breakout Room (5-10 minutes) Week Three, Day Two Last Day of Review together Final Part of Animal FS Breakout Room (5-10 minutes) Week Four, Day One Students go around the room and fingerspell the alphabet Fingerspell Food part One Breakout Room (5-10 minutes) Week Four, Day Two Students fingerspell their names and parents/guardians first names Fingerspell food part Two Breakout Room (5-10 minutes) Week Five, Day One Students fingerspell the alphabet Fingerspell Food part three Breakout room (5-10 minutes) Week Five, Day Two Fingerspell foods Final Part Fingerspell Food and Animals (Mix them up) Breakout Room (5-10 minutes) Week Six, Day One Fingerspell Mix of foods and animals Fingerspell States and Outer Space Breakout Room (5-10 minutes) Final Day: Week Six, Day Two Fingerspell Outdoors Fingerspell mix of Food, Animals, States, and Space. I will also give individualized student feedback which can include improvements needed, additional courses, and recommended courses for continuing ASL. No prerequisite but I recommend my One Time class called Alphabet in a Day if your student doesn't already know the alphabet. Your students will be given opportunity to practice fingerspelling with each other and the teacher. We will also incorporate various activities that will include fingerspelling.

Hello! My name is Samantha Cox. I am planning to teach life skills courses, basic American Sign Language, ASL grammar, and more classes. I am starting with life skills and ASL. I have an associate degree in ASL and a BS in Interpreting. My associates degree is from Onondaga Community College and my B.S degree is from The Rochester Institute of Technology (Most of my schooling was done on the Deaf side of campus, NTID).
I have taught history, ASL, and science to my siblings who are between the ages of 3-14 and my older sister who is in her mid twenties. I did a service learning project where I taught a group of people basic ASL who ranged in ages from 8-50. I have done volunteer interpreting in religious settings and summer camps.
I also taught Sunday School at my church for around three years along with VBS.
I ran my own business on Etsy for several years which focused on sewing and knitting. I hope to eventually add sewing classes to my schedule.
Learning should always be a fun experience for everyone, including the teacher. We should all learn from each other. I am a laid back teacher, I prefer to go by what my students are remembering. I always start with the alphabet and numbers with my older students. With the alphabet in ASL, you can go far.
I was homeschooled my entire life and applied to 5+ colleges. I was accepted into all of them.
(Some of which include: Gallaudet University, Idaho State, Liberty University, Goshen College, etc.)
I got married June 5th 2020, so my name changed to Cox from Speed. I am also a mom of one girl and have a second child on the way.
Edit (9/24/2020): I have ongoing health issues that sometimes prevent me from teaching. Because of this I have running discounts that go up to 80% off of a single class. If I am able and don't have a schedule conflict, I add classes to the end so we can get the same amount of work done.
