このクラスで学べること
During this class, students will learn how to do internet research competently and confidently. We will practice evaluating sources using a five-item checklist for identifying bias, misinformation, and relevancy for internet websites. Students will learn which types of internet sources are the most trustworthy, which are best used for only certain purposes, and which are typically unreliable and biased. This class will train students to safely seek out the correct answers to the questions they’re curious about on the internet, as well as prepare them for future academic research projects in high school and college courses! This interactive class will include practice questions throughout the lesson, along with a post-course mini homework assignment that gives students the opportunity to practice identifying both trustworthy and biased sources on their own on a topic of their choosing. Students will then receive feedback on their newfound skills both from me, the teacher, and from their classmates. After the class, students will be given a handy checklist that summarizes the main details of the lesson. This “Internet Sources Checklist” can be downloaded or printed out for future reference on research papers or day-to-day internet use. Enroll in this class to set your child up for internet searching success!

教師の専門知識と資格
My name is Adrienne. I'm a former teacher turned homeschool mom to my amazing son. I believe any amount of time we can spend designing our children's educations around their passions and unique learning styles is a gift of love. I love sci-fi books and TV shows, photography, and studying dream analysis.
My bachelor's is in Psychology with a Community Health Education minor. My master's is also in Psychology with minors in Social Work and Bilingual Education. I'm TESOL/TEFL certified, meaning I have over 150 hours of additional training on teaching non-native English speakers.
I spent my career as an educator, spending over 6 years as an English, writing, ESOL, and psychology tutor at a community college, while also designing and teaching workshops for my students. For over 4 years, I further worked as a private homeschool teacher for the family of a high schooler with autism. I have extensive experience adapting curriculum to meet the specific needs of students with learning disabilities or who are behind grade level in certain areas. Finally, I worked as a teaching assistant and mentor for multiple undergraduate and graduate level Sociology courses. Under the direction of the professor, I designed lectures, prepared lesson plans, instructed students, and graded coursework.
While I have taught a wide variety of students throughout my career, my expertise is working with students who struggle to learn for whatever reason. Teaching can sometimes be like solving a puzzle. Every student has a unique learning style that can include barriers to learning through some "traditional" approaches. I'm passionate about discovering the ideal method for ALL of my students to be successful when they learn.
Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions about my teaching style or my courses. I'm also open to requests for new class topics or special requests.
