Hello and welcome to fifth grade! There's still so much to learn, discover and explore and this class is full of opportunities to do just that! As a former classroom teacher and full time homeschool mom, I'm excited to offer this class that will have your student feeling happy, excited and confident as they review & learn content and curriculum to make them a total rockstar in fifth grade! Each week we will meet 4 times to cover various subject areas that are crucial to the success of every fifth grader. Through active engagement, exciting instruction and hands on activities, students will gain the knowledge they need (whether it be new or an opportunity for review) to achieve the tools needed to prepare them for a successful school year. Making connections in various subject areas helps students to understand and relate to the content that is being taught. In addition, students at this level will have various at home projects and activities to work on throughout the year. Instructions and materials needed will always be given. Below you will find an outline of class content as well as specific areas of study for the initial 5 weeks of the school year. Additional outlines and information will be updated weekly and will contain the entire school year. Classes listed are in the Central Time Zone. Please note: This year-long class will begin the week of Labor Day 2023 and continue through the school year. Please feel free to email with any questions! We will refer to US government documents at various times throughout the school year to support our study of US history. The information discussed will be unbiased and factual while also allowing for group discussion and varying points of view. All students have a voice and are encouraged to speak up. All students will be supported and treated with respect no matter the content or subject area we are covering!
Age appropriate books and websites will be used to create lesson plans and visuals that reflect different opinions and beliefs to support all learners in class. Much of my content is literature based and inclusive, ensuring that all students feel comfortable. Students are always encouraged to share their perspective in our safe classroom environment.
All content that comes from outside sources are shared with parents first. As a parent/educator, many of my resources are things I have created or collected over the years and include information from trusted authors and fellow educators such as...
Fountas and Pinnell, Lucy Calkins, Stephen and Mary Hake, Math Mammoth.
As an interactive classroom, content is also created together. Using information we already know and adding what we are currently learning, content and learning are created simultaneously in each class.
All curriculum is focused on 5th grade core standards to ensure that no matter where students are located, they are receiving information that is beneficial to their success and growth as a student!

Hello & welcome to Outschool! My name is Suzi and I'm excited to share a bit about myself.
I am a former elementary school teacher turned homeschooling mom. I have a background in Literacy education and find joy in teaching new things and helping students discover their interests through content and instruction. I think it's important to engage students through storytelling, example and hands on experiences.
As a teacher, I've taught everything from pre-school through high school grades and across all content areas. My favorite subjects to teach are history and math and I have a serious love of language and how to use it, whether it be through writing, speaking or problem solving.
My family and I live in Wisconsin. We have 3 children and 3 dogs (2 guinea pigs and a rabbit) and are originally from the East Coast...but are starting to realize we're destined to be midwesterners! I hope to see you in class soon!
Please feel free to reach out with any questions or suggestions you might have for classes. I love teaching with Outschool and can't wait to meet your student.
Thank you,
Miss Suzi
