As the class goes on students will get practice in:
•	Organizing their thoughts with pre-writing exercises
•	Reading their work out loud
•	Listening to their peers in an engaged and respectful way
•	Giving articulate, respectful, and helpful feedback to their peers
•	Developing focus and concentration on a task
•	Letting their creative ideas flourish
•	Exciting collaborative engagement with other students 
•	Learning elements of short story structure 

This workshop is for teens who find fun in a creative challenge. There's so much to write about--new characters, new creatures, new adventures--your teen won't want to stop even after writing time is over.  The collaborative world building element of creating their own haunted world creates a bond between students that they won't forget.

Students are keenly aware of their peer's reactions to their work. They know when everyone is listening breathlessly.  Holding other students in thrall encourages participants to write at a more challenging level. As they participate in the workshop they naturally want to read something other students will enjoy, so they begin pushing themselves to write better work using the tools presented by the instructor in exercises.  By the end of the workshop, their writing has reached a more sophisticated and challenging level.
