The class will start with introductions and listening to what the students may already know about bees. We will talk about bees as insects, their basic body parts and how they may be similar or different to other insects. We will colour in a bee pointing out each body part. We will introduce each bee job in the hive and talk about the role and life of the queen. We will discuss how bees communicate and why they are important to the environment and to humans. If they would like to do our easy pollination experiment, they will also need the following supplies: 1. Flower print out on coloured paper of their choice or on white paper plus colours to colour it in during class. 2. A small bowl of flour 3. A pipe cleaner, cotton ball, piece of felt or other fluffy material the flour can stick to.
Parents may need to lend a hand with the crafts, especially cutting out the flower.
