One of the secrets to successful writing is writing on a subject that is of interest to the student. In this class we will study the foundational elements of essay writing using favorite video games as our topic. Modern video games are an art form that deserve discussion and analysis. Students will learn how see games with new eyes as they learn how to analyze the elements that make the games they love fun to play. They will then learn to apply their new vision of their game into written words as they create an essay on the subject.

Classes will consist of lecture by the instructor based on his extensive writing experience combined with his personal video gaming experience from the 1970's to the present. Student participation, both verbal and written, will be an important part of the learning experience. Our discussions will be mixed with shorter writing assignments that lead to a complete essay about an aspect of a video game of the student's choice.
