Some learners take longer to write while others work more quickly. In this flexible workshop, each student can move at their own pace, dropping in and out as needed. The workshop guides learners through the step-by-step process of crafting well-structured and authoritative essays, whether they are working on formal academic writing, discursive essays, or other formats.

Each week, students practice writing essays, using brainstorms and outlines to organize their ideas. The teacher will assign a format and suggest an optional topic that fits the student’s grade level, allowing them to work independently on their essays. Based on the group’s needs, the instructor may demonstrate how to use brainstorms and outlines effectively.

New participants are encouraged to share their brainstorm and outline before starting their essay. Once the essay process begins, the instructor provides basic feedback on structure and requirements, such as clarifying the thesis or organizing ideas.

Each class offers targeted guidance on how to approach different elements of essay writing, along with related activities, clear teacher instructions, and essay exemplars. The goal is to equip learners with the skills and strategies they need to confidently tackle formal, academic, and discursive writing, preparing them for entrance exams like SATs, IGCSE, or A-levels.

Writing Class Overview:

Expository, Descriptive, Persuasive, Narrative, and Research Essays

In this writing workshop, we cycle through different essay styles, including Expository, Descriptive, Persuasive, Narrative, and Research essays. Each style is covered over two sessions, giving students the opportunity to explore each format thoroughly. However, the pace at which students complete each essay depends entirely on them. Some students may need more time for brainstorming and drafting, while others may finish their essays more quickly.

This flexible approach allows each learner to work at their own pace, whether they are just starting out or need more time for revisions. Since it's a drop-in, drop-out workshop, students can focus on developing their writing skills without the pressure of having to keep up with a set schedule. The teacher provides personalized feedback and guidance to support each student's progress, ensuring they are learning and improving regardless of where they are in the essay-writing process.

About me:

Hello! I’m an experienced and passionate English teacher with a proven track record of teaching in UK schools, Asian classrooms, and ESL programs worldwide. Coming from a mixed-race, multicultural background, I deeply understand the importance of embracing diversity and creating inclusive learning environments. This perspective shapes my teaching style, making my lessons both culturally rich and accessible to students from all walks of life.

Teaching Philosophy:

I believe every student is unique, and my teaching style reflects this. I create student-centered lessons where learners feel empowered to explore, ask questions, and engage actively. Whether teaching in a UK classroom or guiding ESL students in Asia, I adapt my approach to ensure inclusivity and success for all.

My Teaching Style:

Interactive and Engaging Lessons:

I use games, storytelling, and technology to make learning fun and memorable. From interactive apps like Kahoot and Quizlet to hands-on activities, I ensure my students enjoy their learning journey while achieving measurable progress.

Focus on Communication:

For me, language is about connection. Whether preparing students for Cambridge exams (Starters, Movers, Flyers, PET, KET) or day-to-day conversations, I balance grammar instruction with practical communication skills.

Culturally Responsive Teaching:

Growing up in a multicultural environment, I bring cultural relevance into the classroom, celebrating diversity and helping students see language as a tool for exploring the world.

Blended Learning:

I combine traditional teaching methods with modern tools to create dynamic lessons. Whether through phonics for young learners or advanced grammar for older students, I ensure every lesson is engaging and impactful.

Differentiation for All Abilities:

I tailor lessons to suit mixed-ability classes, providing scaffolding for struggling learners and challenging tasks for advanced students.

Experience and Expertise:

In UK Schools:

I have extensive experience teaching KS1 to KS4 learners, focusing on literacy, creative writing, and comprehension. I also support EAL (English as an Additional Language) students, helping them integrate and succeed academically.

In Asian Classrooms:

My time teaching in Asia has taught me how to bridge the gap between rote learning and critical thinking. I encourage students to express themselves creatively while respecting their learning culture.

As an ESL Teacher:

Teaching English as a Second Language is my passion. I specialize in preparing students for Cambridge English exams and designing lessons that make learning practical, fun, and confidence-boosting.

What Makes My Classroom Special:

A welcoming and inclusive atmosphere where students feel safe to take risks and learn from mistakes.
Regular feedback and encouragement to build confidence and track progress.
Lessons packed with visual aids, games, storytelling, and relatable examples to make language come alive.
Why I Love Teaching:
Helping students discover the power of language is incredibly rewarding. My multicultural background inspires me to connect with students from different cultures and help them find their voice. Whether it’s a shy beginner gaining confidence in speaking or an advanced student mastering a complex concept, I take pride in being part of their journey. I love sparking curiosity, encouraging critical thinking, and creating lessons that inspire students to learn and grow.
