The Monarch butterfly was placed on the endangered species list in 2022. I am lucky enough to raise and release Monarchs at home and they have become one of my favorite insects. In this multi-day science class, students will dive into the world of metamorphosis as we become acquainted with the Monarch butterfly. Week 1Lesson 1Day 1Students will identify Monarchs and explore Metamorphosis. We will learn the anatomy of every stage in this cycle and end class by becoming familiar with the Monarch’s ecology, behavior and vulnerabilities.Lesson 2Day 2Students will recognize milkweed and its importance. We will examine seasonal generations and track the “great migration.” Students will learn how we can support our pollinators and what we can do specifically for Monarchs.
- Students will recognize Monarch butterflies.
- Students will understand the Monarch butterfly life cycle and migration.
- Students will become familiar with the rolls of pollinators and how we can help them.
