***Chapters 1-3 must be read before the first class. ***

In this 6 week class, we will meet 2 times a week to discuss the novel, The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe by C.S. Lewis while learning how to write a five paragraph persuasive essay.
The literature class each week will be a class discussion that will focus on literary elements such as characters, setting, and plot for the assigned chapters, so the kids do need to read the assigned chapters or listen to an audio book. Each week, a pdf of the reading response questions will be uploaded to the classroom. The students will need to answer these questions before the next class meeting.

During the writing class each week, the kids will learn what is persuasive writing and how to write a persuasive essay. Your child needs to be familiar with paragraph structure.

We will have writing lessons that include writing thesis statements, paragraph transitions, writing introduction, body and conclusion paragraphs with the goal of writing a persuasive essay. The class meetings will incorporate grammar and punctuation lessons with the writing lessons such as how to use commas when writing compound-complex sentences. The kids will be assigned a writing prompt that is from The Lion, The Witch, and The Wardrobe.

During our class meetings, the kids will work on the individual writing assignments.
During the class meetings when the kids are working independently on their writing assignment, they may receive help from me by using the chat or by asking questions.

My teaching style is a combination of guided discussion and lecture. Slideshows and video clips may be used during class.

**** Friends and Siblings**** All learners must be enrolled in the class in order to be fair to the other enrolled learners.
