After graduating from University of South Florida in 1994 with a Bachelor of Arts degree in English with an emphasis in Creative Writing, I worked for USF for several years and decided to become a Language Arts teacher. In 1996, I became an English Language Arts teacher for middle school students grades 6-8. I took post graduate credits for my education certification from USF.

Teaching Certifications from the state of Florida include:

Teaching Philosophy:
My philosophy behind my teaching is I consider my students to be writers before they take any of my classes. They might be at different levels of proficiency, but most students are required to write from the time they can hold a crayon throughout their school years. I want to give my writers the agency to express themselves creatively through poetry, short stories, and creative non-fiction (personal narratives, blogs, podcast scripts, etc.)
宿題が提供されます
Each week, students will read an assigned personal narrative to read and specific questions to answer, based on the skills we are studying that week. Each week, students will also work on writing their own personal narrative. There are 2 assignments due on Fridays of each week to be turned in to me inside the Outschool classroom.
授業以外に週あたり 1 - 2 時間の学習が期待されます
評価が提供されます
Learners will be given weekly feedback and encouragement to revise (if needed). Learners can receive a letter grade upon request
成績が提供されます
Students need to have a private, parental guidance Google account that is not connected to a school account because my files may not appear in their school account. They will need to log in with a Google email address to be able to copy and use Assignments as well as other materials for the class.

For students who like to write ideas on paper before they type into a computer, a spiral notebook is a good idea to use for this class.
このクラスでは、Outschool内のクラスルームに加えて、以下を使用します。
We will be using Google Apps, Google Drive, Kahoot, Pear Deck, and NearPod for this course to make it fun and interactive for students to learn.
We will be reading the following short personal narratives:
The Scholarship Jacket by Marta Salinas
Drive In Movies by Gary Soto
Terror by Junot Diaz
Dirk, the Protector by Gary Paulsen
