Welcome to fifth-grade English Language Arts!

This course contains a variety of activities and is based on Wonders 5th Grade Units 1 - 6, Weeks 1 - 5. This course is 48 weeks long (6 Units x 8 weeks each).

	Week 3: Seeing for Yourself (Cause & Effect, Homographs, Simple vs Compound Sentences)
	Week 4: Inventions (Sequence, Biography, Greek Roots)
	Week 5: New Technology (Author’s Point of View, Persuasive Article, Greek/Latin Prefix)
	Week 6-8 Persuasive Essay Template (3 classes)

Unit 2- Taking the next step. What does it take to put a plan into action?
         Week 1: Reaching a Compromise (Problem & Solution, Expository Text, Context Clues) 
	Week 2: Seeking the Answer (Compare/Contrast, Fairy Tale, Simile, Metaphor)
	Week 3: Investigations (Sequence, Biography, Greek/Latin Suffixes)	
	Week 4: A Plan of Action (Predictions, Folktale, Personification)
	Week 5: Making It Happen (Poetry, Repetition, Rhyme, Homographs)
	Week 6-8 Poetry (3 classes) 

Unit 3- Getting from here to there. What kinds of experiences can lead to new discoveries?

	Week 3: Patterns (Main Idea, Key Details, Expository Text)

        Week 6-8 Biography (3 classes)

Unit 4- It's up to you. How do we decide what's important?
        Week 1: Sharing Stories (Visualize, Point of View, Tall Tale, Synonyms & Antonyms)
	Week 2: Discoveries (Point of View, Drama, Adages & Proverbs)
	Week 3: Take Action (Summarize, Pronouns, Sequencing)
	Week 4: Consider Our Resources (Summarize, Expository Text)
	Week 5: Express Yourself (Poetry, Stanza and Meter, Simile and Metaphor, Homophone)
	Week 6-8: Presidential Report

Unit 5- What's next? In what ways can things change?
