In this 12-week flex course students will create portraits of their own cartoon characters! Students are introduced to basic drawing techniques in Weeks 1-9 and will practice drawing the face in 3 views, gender bend, age, ink, and color their characters. Hi everyone! I’m Joi Overby. I graduated university with Summa Cum Laude honors with my BS in Media Arts and Technology. Since then I've worked in the graphic design industry designing thrilling logos and publications for businesses, and drawing specially-made illustrations for individuals and families.

Drawing is my passion and I especially love drawing cartoons and anime! This passion has inspired my classes here on Outschool that teach young artists the basics of creating their own cartoon and anime characters and worlds. By name, my class series is called Draw Your Own Anime Characters and it’s set up to guide artists at virtually any level of their art journey. Each class is open to students drawing by hand or digitally, and is loaded with practice assignments that help the drawing techniques become familiar, if not, second nature to students. I encourage you to check out the class series and give your future artist the opportunity to hone their unique art style and skill.

SERIES LINE UP:

Draw Your Own Anime Characters: Portraits

This class is self-paced and open to novice artists or students with little to no knowledge of drawing cartoons, anime, and manga characters. Students are introduced to basic drawing techniques as they draw portraits of their own anime characters.

Draw Your Own Anime Characters: Anatomy [WIP]

This class is self-paced and open to beginner artists or students that know how to draw character facial features and hair. Students build upon basic drawing techniques as they draw character anatomy.

Draw Your Own Anime Characters Community [On Hiatus]

This social group is open to students of any art level. Students are welcome to share their cartoon, anime, and manga inspired artwork and inspire their peers as they share drawing techniques, feedback, and tips with each other.
