We love playing Animal Crossing: New Horizons on the Switch! Let’s have some fun drawing ourselves as characters from the game! 

First, we will learn to draw the main characters (Us! Humans!). Then, we will practice making animal villagers and choose the animal character we want to draw ourselves as. 

Students will learn to sketch and use basic shapes to make characters. We will review the sketching and inking process to help characters look more polished and professional. Students can also try to use reference pictures for greater accuracy when drawing items like clothing, hats, and accessories for their characters. 

I will discuss the character design process with students as we go along so that they can arrive at a character concept that they are happy with in the end. If they can’t make their perfect character by the end of the class, they should have enough techniques to help them get there.

Students will be able to watch me draw with a pencil/pen on paper while I explain what I am doing. The students will be able to follow along with me and ask questions as we go along in the drawing and designing process.  

Your student can find outfits they do not have in-game via the hyperlinks provided and learn how to apply them to the character they are drawing. It is not mandatory to use the clothing items found on this website, but it would be good for students to have an idea of what they might like their character to wear. 

I have also left the link of the list of all villagers that can help your student choose which animal type they would like to try to draw first. We will be drawing several different animal body types, but it will be based on what the class would like to see since there won’t be enough time to draw every single animal type.
